Industrial production for April was valued at 54.988 trillion dong (US$3.43 billion), reports the general Statistical Office taking the total value for the first four months to 215.5 trillion dong (US$13.5 billion), a year-on-year increase of 16.4%.

The figure is slightly higher than the 16.3% of the first quarter and well above the National Assembly's target of 5%, the GSO said

Industrial production value would have been higher but for a 4.3% fall in crude oil output.

Total production was 5.2 million tonnes. Natural and liquefied gas production also fell.

The highest growth -16.8% -was in the foreign-invested sector which earned US$5.7 billion.
