Apparel export price to US rises

Total value of signed contracts to export Vietnam made apparel to US is estimated at US$2.4 billion, rising 26% yoy, reported Le Quoc An-chair of Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas).

This is an impressive rise in the context that the world's average price of apparel contracts is declining to US$1.79 a square metre, even that of the biggest apparel exporter China also was down 2% against 2007.

At present, Vietnam's apparel export to US stands at SU$2.39 a square metres, after Sri Lanka at US$3.64 a square metres.

According to the ministry of industry and trade, Vietnam now ranks the forth position among US bound apparel exporters and the country's market share in terms of apparel export in the world also surged from 4,73% in 2007 to 5.49% since April 2008.
