Foreign visitor arrivals rise 10% to 2.6m in H1

During the first seven months of the year, there were 2,619,287 international tourists arriving in Vietnam, up 10.6% against the same period of last year and fulfilling 52.3% of the year's target, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Of which, there were 1.6 million foreign tourists, up 3.1% yoy, 505,500 people arriving for businesses, rising 38.4% from a year ago, 348,800 people visiting for family reasons, down 3% from last year and 189,300 people for other purposes, falling 7.2% compared to 2007.

Taiwan stood at the pole place in the number of arrivals with 196,000 people, up 6.8% yoy, Thailand with 132,600, rising 41.6%, Malaysia 102,600, up 21.6%, Singapore 93,100, up 27.5%, Philippine 28,400, up 55.1%, China 297,000, down 8.3%, Korea 277,400, down 6.3%, Japan 227,400, falling 4.2% and the US with nearly 250,000 arrivals.
