Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) on February 2 reported that Cambodia-Vietnam bilateral trade last year reached $1.33 billion, down 18.7 percent compared with 2008's $1.64 billion.

Cambodia's agricultural product exports to Vietnam fell 15.5 percent to $186 million, while Vietnam earned $1.14 billion from exports to Cambodia, mainly apparel, construction materials and consumer goods, declining 19 percent year-on-year.

In related news, Cambodia-Thailand trade in 2009 also declined 22.15 percent y-o-y to $1.66 billion. Cambodia export to Thailand was down 13.8 percent to $77.73 million and Thai export to Cambodia also dropped by 22.52 percent to $1.58 billion.

CCC chair Nguon Meng Tech said that the sharp reductions in the trade between Cambodia and two neighbouring countries came from the affects of the global financial crisis.

The targeted $2 billion trade of Vietnam-Cambodia in 2010 is hard to reach because the global financial storm has not fully ended.
