Vietnamese prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the building of four universities using US$400 million of loans to be taken from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, the government said Wednesday.

"The prime minister has agreed with plans to build the four universities, and asks that the ministries of finance, education, planning and investment and the central bank initiate procedures to borrow from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank," the government said on its Web site.

The statement didn't specify when the universities will begin operating or what they will be named.
