Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the US and the Boeing Company Thursday signed an agreement at HCMC Van Lang University to help five Vietnamese educational institutions to train IT engineers.

The five institutions are Van Lang University, Duy Tan University, Can Tho University, IT company DTT-HanoiCTT and Ho Chi Minh City Information Technology Training Institute.

According to the agreement, CMU will use its training resources to bring approximately 100 teachers in the five institutions up to CMU standards within four years.

The cooperative program aims to help Vietnamese software businesses increase their competitiveness in developing and producing software programs for the international market.

CMU's Asia region cooperation director John Kang says it is necessary for Vietnam to develop its software and IT capacity to keep up with global growth.
