The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)'s governor recently issued a Decision No 2187/QD-NHNN and another No 2188/QD-NHNN allowing the Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SGB) and VietACommercial Joint Stock Bank (VietABank) to issue convertible bonds totalling 1.4 trillion dong in 2008.

In particular, SGB would issue one trillion dong of G-bonds and VietABank will issue 400 billion dong of G-bonds this year. By the end of 2007, SGB had a chartered capital of 1.02 trillion dong and VietABank one trillion dong up to June 2008. These banks must use the capital being mobilised from the bond issuance under the SBV's regulations.
