The HCM City Social Insurance Agency has recalled more than 41 billion dong after bringing lawsuits against local enterprises for evasion of social insurance premiums.

The agency took legal proceedings against 150 enterprises last year. The total debt was 71 billion dong.

Cao Van Sang, the agency's director said that the violators still owed more than 29 billion dong. Sang added that the agency sent several warning notices to the enterprises before legal action was taken.

Some enterprises have settled their debts to protect their reputation before the lawsuits begin.

Sang suggested the Government raise punitive measures against violators in the future. He added that the nation should fine violators 20% of their debt, or up to 500 million dong.

In addition, he suggested strict punishment for enterprises that fail to transfer premiums to relevant agencies after deducting workers' wages.
