Two people have died from the H1N1 influenza virus in Thailand, becoming the country's first two fatalities from the virus, the Thai Public health ministry announced Saturday.

A 42-year-old man died Saturday morning at a hospital in Sri Racha District, Chonburi Province, 120 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, and a 40-year-old woman died last Saturday at a Bangkok hospital, Public Health minister Witthaya Kaewparadai told a news conference.

The ministry also confirmed Saturday another 77 newly confirmed cases of the new influenza. Among them, 16 people remain hospitalised as of Saturday. To date, Thailand has reported a total of 1,209 cases of the new flu.
