EU open source software programme launched
25-AUG-2007 Intellasia | VNA
Aug 25, 2007 - 7:00:00 AM
A project on free and open source software (FoSS) business cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union made its debut in Hanoi, on August 23. The "FoSS-bridge over EU and Vietnam" project aims to promote the development of the Southeast Asian software industries while cooperating with Europe.

Capacity Building International (InWent) of Germany, the French National Institute for Research Computer Science and Control (INRIA) and the Institute of Information Technology of Vietnam under the sponsorship of the Asia Invest programme will be the key stakeholders in the programme.

FoSS project representative in Vietnam, Vu The Binh, said that from now until 2009, as part of the project, training programmes for Vietnamese businesses and software associations will be run and initiatives will be put forward for cooperation with European partners in open source software projects.

The application of open source software will help Vietnam's software industry enhance its IT and telecom models and eventually lower end user costs for governmental agencies and business, Binh said.
