Vietnam will host, in September, an international conference and exhibition on intensifying application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the country's finance sector, organisers said here Thursday.

The event named Vietnam ICT in Finance 2008 slated for September 16-19 in capital Hanoi will be a good venue for such ICT users as taxation, treasure, customs and stock market to approach many latest solutions, especially integrated ones for several industries in the same sector, in a short period of time, Dang DucMai, director of the Department for Financial Informatics and Statistics under the country's finance ministry, told reporters.

"One of focal points of Vietnam ICT in Finance 2008 is ICT for strategic planning and decision-making. With the help of software designated for making analysis, statistics and forecast, leaders in the finance sector can have better plans and decisions on such issues as management of goods prices or control of inflation," he said.

The four-day event will also centre on mapping out a system for monitoring trading on the local stock market, ensuring interests of all stake-holders in the bourse, said Mai.

Besides, over 900 delegates to the conference, mainly government officials as well as Vietnamese and foreign experts and entrepreneurs, will discuss the acceleration of building up e-government, including a portal to provide citizens with updated information about legislation, policies, administrative procedures and public biddings, the improvement of information security and digital certification in the finance sector.

The e-government also covers the development of data centres which mostly host information about state budget collection and spending, legal documents, public assets and tax payers, and enhancement of risk management and business continuity, minimising breakdowns in banks and stock and gold markets.

Some 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the exhibition with the participation of about 20 foreign and Vietnamese companies which will showcase their latest ICT products and services, said Le Thanh Tam, managing director of International Data Group (IDG) Vietnam and Indochina.

On the sidelines of Vietnam ICT in Finance 2008, a Chief Information Officer (CIO) conference, a top-executive forum where leading CIOs from Vietnam and international organisations convene for partnership networking, experience sharing and new business innovation, will be held on September 17.

Vietnam ICT in Finance 2008 will be organised by the Department of Financial Informatics and Statistics and the IDG, the world's leading technology media, events and research company.
