iPhone 3G unlocked in Vietnam

The owner of a mobile phone shop in Hanoi successfully unlocked an iPhone 3G by making some changes to the phone's international circuit.

As iPhone are still not sold in Vietnam, the country does not have an AT&T network for the operation of the phones. Vietnamese people have had to use fake SIM cards to use the phones.

But according to Tuan Anh, the owner of the mobile phone shop, his method of unlocking the phone helps the phone to run more stably and flexibly than with SIM joining.

"SIM joining is not called unlocking because the operator adds a thin SIM into the iPhone to trick the phone system into believing that it is running with an AT&T SIM. My method is changing the hardware to unlock this network," explained Tuan Anh.

According to him, chipsets on the phone's mainboard can be adjusted to rub out its connection to the AT&T network.

The unlocked iPhone 3G was tested with GSM-based networks in Vietnam like VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel. Tuan Anh said MobiFone is the best for this 3G phone.

This method allows iPhone 3G users to change SIM freely and there is a greater success rate with the unlocking method than with using false SIM.
