No settlement has been reached in talks between the Recording Industry Association of Vietnam (RIAV) and FPT Telecom over allegations of copyright infringement of recorded music.

On Monday, in a press conference, RIAV said that it is going to initiate a lawsuit against FPT Telecom for sharing recorded music over the internet via its website, Nhac So, and using copyrighted material on FPT Telecom's internet television service, IPTV.

The two sides decided to speak on Wednesday to try and solve the problems relating to the allegation. However, no agreements were reached during the negotiation.

The allegation also said that Nokia Vietnam has allowed its customers to download 1,000 copyrighted songs from a 10,000 song database through FPT Telecom website, Nhac So.

FPT Telecom said they had signed contracts with several music production firms, including VietTan, Saigon Vafaco, Lac Hong, and Trung Duong.

However, FPT Telecom is using songs from 15 other music production firms that it has not yet signed contracts with, said RIAV.

Nokia Vietnam appears to be uninterested in the allegation, saying to Vietnamnet that Nokia Vietnam has no comment on the allegation and encourages the two sides [RIAV and FPT Telecom] to solve the problem in a friendly way.

FPT asked RIAV not to share information with the press regarding the issue that the two are trying to work out in their talks, RIAV's deputy chairwoman, Truong Thi Thu Dung said.

The deputy said that RIAV is going to follow-up with the lawsuit against FPT Telecom. However, the door to negotiations remains open with FPT Telecom and Nokia Vietnam, said Truong Thi Thu Dung.
