Gtel Mobile, a joint venture between the Global Telecommunication Corp (Gtel) and Russia's VimpelCom Group, was ready to make its debut in July 2009 under the trademark of Beeline in domestic telecommunication and mobile market.

Some experts said that the time of Gtel Mobile's participation in the market was not considered favourable as three largest mobile service providers in Vietnam namely Viettel, MobiFone, and VinaPhone have pushed the mobile charges at the lowest level now.

In addition, the domestic market was nearly reaching a saturated point with about 70 registered subscribers mobile subscribers. Another disadvantage was that Gtel failed to obtain one of the four 3G business licenses, a new technology that can help the mobile service providers to upgrade the network's capacity and to supply plenty of new value-added services for the customers.

Sergei Zakurayev, Gtel Mobile's marketing manager while admitting the competitive situation in the market said that there is still a great scope for Gtel Mobile in the telecommunication market.

Gtel Mobile expects to gain 20 percent of the domestic market in the next five years. Before joining Vietnam's market, VimpelCom had carefully carried out market surveys and believes that by applying its working experience in the global market, Beeline could participate in the country's market successfully.

Now, there are about 62.7 million VimpelCom mobile subscribers in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to its record. Besides, the VimpelCom's mobile subscribers may use services of 533 mobile providers in 214 countries all over the world. That means Gtel Mobile subscribers would belong to international network with the large operation scope and more easy connectivity to global network.

In addition, Gtel Mobile would pay attention to issues relating to costs, the local people's ways of thinking and using habits. In details, Gtel Mobile would offer reasonable mobile charges to attract different kinds of customers. The mobile number to be offered by Gtel Mobile is 0199.

Gtel Mobile has already finished the infrastructure construction work – Phase 1 in the key areas, and is trying to increase the degree of coverage all over the country up to the end of this year.

When Gtel joins the market, it's likely to start a new race of reducing mobile costs among the small mobile service providers of EVN Telecom, S-Fone and VietnamMobile.
