The telecommunication service provider of Vietnamobile plans to introduce new sim-cards with phone numbers beginning with 0188 within February 2010, Nguyen Xuan Quan, vice general director of Vietnamobile said.

He added that this would be a challenge that the telecommunication provider has to face with in the near future. It would take time to promote and advertise the new phone numbers to public.

After nearly one year coming back to the telecommunication markets by changing the technologies from CDMA to GSM, Vietnamobile has developed about 4 million subscribers. The company has set up about 5,000 BTS with coverage area of 90 percent in 63 cities and provinces nationwide and established retail network of 60,000 shops and distribution points.

Therefore, there are seven mobile service providers with 24 different mobile numbers in the telecommunication markets at present. If the functional authorities approve the proposal of registration for new mobile phone numbers of Viettel, MobiFone and S-Fone, there will be 28 phone numbers in the market.

Viettel, that owns 7 phone numbers of 098, 097, 0165, 0166, 0167, 0168, and 0169, has currently applied for new number of 0164. MobiFone with current phone numbers of 090, 093, 0121, 0122, 0124, 0126 and 0128 has applied for new number of 0120, meanwhile VinaPhone has 6 numbers of 091, 094, 0123, 0125, 0127 and 0129. S-Fone with its current 095 has applied for new number of 0155. EVN Telecom has phone number of 096 and Vietnamobile of 092 and 0188. And Beeline has the current number of 0199.

At present, there are about 130.7 million phone subscribers, in which over 100 million are mobile subscribers. The specialists revealed that there would be much potential in the country's telecommunication markets. The current eight mobile network providers would still expect to attract additional 30 million new subscribers in the future.
