Vietnam wanted the US National Geographic Society to correct a newly-published map that made the "Paracel Island" (Hoang Sa archipelago) part of China, Vietnam news agency cited Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga, as saying.

"Vietnam has indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos," she said in reply to reporter questions recently.

"We request that the National Geographic correct its mistake."

Hoang Sa District's People's Committee chair Dang Cong Ngu told a Vietnam News Agency reporter that Vietnam's sovereignty over the island was indisputable.

History and the law proved it, he said.

The National Geographic Society's mistake must be corrected.
