A technology transfer and transaction showroom was opened in HCM City by the city's Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with South Korea's KIPA, or Korea Invention Promotion Association.

The showroom is aimed at helping local enterprises to search for information on new technologies in the world in general and from South Korea in particular so as to help them upgrade technology, improve product quality and productivity. Areas of priority include solid waste treatment and energy saving technologies among others.

Le Hoai Quoc, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology, told the opening ceremony that the showroom would be the first step towards establishing a technology and intellectual property exchange centre in the future.

Chang Hoon Lee, CEO of South Korea's Origin Innovation under KIPA, who also attended the event, said Korean companies are strong in treating hazardous solid wastes and medical wastes as well as in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. In the future, KIPA will dispatch experts to Vietnam to provide training for Vietnamese enterprises in these areas, he said.

On the occasion, the department and KIPA also signed an agreement on technology transfer.
