Three international groups, short-listed from 12 applicants, Sunday outlined their proposed development plans for the Hanoi mega-city.

The three group- Japan's Arata Isozaki and Holland's Metropolitan Architecture, the Republic of Korea's Posco E&C and America's Jina Architect and Perkins Eastman, and RTKL of the US— outlined their proposals to a government meeting chaired by prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Depending on which plan is adopted, Hanoi will become a multi-polar city, a city with 60% of land allocated as green space or a city consisting of five satellite cities dedicated to different purposes.

On August 1, Hanoi's boundaries expanded to contain an area of 3,300 square kilometres and a population of more than 6.2 million.
