The Vietnam-Japan Consulting Joint Venture (VJC) has recently proposed to select Shinkansen technology for Vietnam's North-South high-speed railway project whereby it will take only five hours and a half to travel from Hanoi to HCM City.

According to VJC's report, the North-South two-lane railway project with 1,570 kilometres in length will have speed of 300 kilometres per hour.

Along the route, there will be 27 railway stations with the starting point in Hanoi and the ending point in Hoa Hung.
The project with total initial investment of over $55.8 billion, of which, nearly $31 billion will be spent on building infrastructure and the remaining part will be for equipments and ground clearance. The money will be sourced from the state budget, the Vietnam Railway Corp and other investors.

VJC includes the Transport Investment and Construction Consultant Joint Stock Co (TRICC) of Vietnam and the Japan Transportation Consultants (JTC), the Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS) and the Nippon Koei Co. Ltd

As planned, some priority sections of the railway like the Hanoi-central Nghe An province and HCM City- central Khanh Hoa province can open in 2020. The entire route is expected to become operational by 2036.
