South Korean investor Nam A D&C late last week obtained an investment certificate from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue to develop a multi-purpose tourism project worth nearly US$482 million, a senior official said.
Ngo Hoa, vice chair of the provincial government, said the investor would develop the Nam A Lang Co resort in Loc Binh Commune in Phu Loc District. The sprawling resort on 317 hectares will include an 18-hole golf course, a villa section, a hotel area, a seafront villa area, and an entertainment section.
Accommodation facilities in this phased development will include over 1,000 villas and some nine hotels with 600 rooms. The investor will start construction of the first phase early next year for opening in late 2010, while the whole project's development will finish by 2016.
Hoa said that the project is located near the province's Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone, which is planned to become a large-scale economic and trade centre in the central region.
The zone is home to many big tourism projects such as the Laguna Hue resort project worth US$875 million of Enda Pte Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd, a resort and golf course project in Lap An Lagoon, and the Lang Co Village among others.
From January to the middle of last month, the zone has attracted seven projects with total pledged investment of 18.3 trillion dong, bringing the total number of projects in the zone to 30 with pledged capital of nearly 27.5 trillion dong, or around US$1.65 billion.
