The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced an agreement with Vietnam's MB Land Joint Stock Co to manage a 300-room hotel bearing the Holiday Inn brand in Hanoi.

The Holiday Inn Hanoi Dong Da Hotel at 6-8 Chua Boc Street in Dong Da District will become the first hotel in Vietnam to bear this brand when it opens to business in 2012.

January Smits, chief operating officer for Southern Asia and Korea of InterContinental Hotels Group Asia Pacific, said in a statement that Holiday Inn was the world-recognised hotel brand preferred by business travellers.

MB Land is owned by Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank and the Service Flight Corporation.

Le Thu Ha, an executive of planning and investment of MB Land, told the Daily last Friday that the signing of the pact took place last Thursday in Hanoi and that the four-star hotel would be located in a complex of hotels, office buildings and shopping centres.

Work on the project is expected to start next year.

The InterContinental Hotels Group last year opened its first hotel in Vietnam, the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake. The company plans seven more hotels in the country -three InterContinental and four Crowne Plaza hotels. They will be located in Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang and Nha Trang.

The InterContinental Hotels Group owns, manages, leases and franchises over 4,000 hotels across nearly 100 countries and territories. It has seven hotel brands -InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites.
