Thai stocks down 8.2%, banks dive

Thailand's benchmark stock index.SETI opened down 8.2% on Friday, tracking a sell-off in overseas markets driven by spreading fears of global recession, dealers said.

At the opening bell, the main index was down 8.21% at 458.96, its lowest since June 2003, with the heavyweight energy sector.SETEN sinking 8.87% and the banking sector.SETB 10.93% lower.
