The Singapore government Friday said it has completed the first round of negotiations with the European Union on a free trade agreement between the two trading partners.

"The two sides had constructive discussions on a range of issues," the Singapore government said in a statement.

"These include trade in goods, rules of origin, trade remedies, trade in services and investment, intellectual property, government procurement, customs procedures, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, competition, sustainable development and dispute settlement," it said.

The next round of talks is due May 31 to June 4 in Brussels.
