Singpore's non-oil domestic exports to Malaysia up 12pct in February

Singapore's non-oil domestic exports (NODX) to Malaysia rose by 12 percent in February, following the 34 percent increase in the previous month.

The rise in exports was due to higher non-electronic domestic exports, according to a monthly report released on Wednesday by International Enterprise (IE) Singapore.

The report said non-electronic domestic exports to Malaysia increased by 28 percent in February, after the previous month's 57 percent rise.

The rise in non-electronic exports was mainly due to higher domestic exports of petrochemicals (+65%), specialised machinery (+117%) and non-monetary gold (+93%).

However, the report said electronic domestic exports to Malaysia contracted by 3.8 percent last month in contrast to the 12 percent increase in January.

The lower sales in electronic domestic exports were mainly due to lower domestic exports of parts of integrated circuits (-39%), telecommunications equipment (-55%) and parts of personal computers (-8.7%).

On overall trend, the city-state's NODX rose by 15 percent in February, compared with the previous month's 9.1 percent decrease, due to increased sales of both electronic and non-electronic NODX.

The report also said Singapore's total trade increased by 2.0 percent in February, after the 3.3 percent rise in the previous month.

Its total exports grew by 1.9 percent in February, following the 3.5 percent expansion in the previous month, while total imports rose by 2.1 percent last month after the 3.1 percent rise in January.
