Companies from China, Thailand and Poland are among 42 exhibitors showcasing their products and services at the Auto Malaysia Expo 2010 that kicked off yesterday.

The expo at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur showcases equipment, parts, components, accessories, technologies and services linked to the automotive industry.

Organiser Asif International (M) Sdn Bhd expects the three-day event to attract 3,000 trade visitors and professionals.

Auto Malaysia Expo is aimed at providing a platform for both local and international manufacturers as well as suppliers to showcase their products and services to potential buyers in Malaysia and the Asean region.

There will be a workshop and seminar themed "Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV): Saving Costs and Tapping Opportunities" tomorrow. It is to promote awareness on the proper NGV installation process.

A roadmap to promote green energy resources in Malaysia is an altenative fuel vehicle (AFV) programme, said Dr Xander Thong.

"In Asean, Malaysia has been the forerunner in the promotion of AFVs since 1992," Thong, an NGV advocate, wrote in a paper for the seminar.

The country's AFV roadmap started with NGVs and will journey in the direction of hybrid and electric vehicles. "Any user converting (to NGV) tomorrow, he or she will not be alone. They will be joining a group of 41,291 NGV vehicles in Malaysia," Thong noted.
