Community leaders in Belait District have no objections to the upcoming projects in the development of Brunei National Petroleum Company's (PetroleumBRUNEI) onshore Block M yesterday during a briefing at the Belait District Office.
Canadian airborne surveying company Sander Geophysics, recently appointed by Block M operator Tap Oil, is set to conduct an aeromagnetic gravitational survey on the 3011-sq kilometres area at the end of June this year. "As at the moment we have no concerns. We have no objections towards Tap Oil's exploration agenda," Mukim Kuala Belait Penghulu Hj Pungut Ali told The Brunei Times following the briefing.
"All we have to do now is to relay the information to the village people," said Hj Johari Hj Omar Ali, a Belait District village head.
A Cessna Grand Caravans, fitted with a magnetometer and a gravity metre, will be flown over Block M to determine potential oil and gas reservoirs based on magnetic and gravity anomalies.
Tap Oil's Chief Geophysicist, Suni Hj Sulaiman, said the aircraft will fly back-and-forth over the block for a comprehensive set of data which Tap Oil will analyse in the later stages.
"The airborne survey is required because Block M is big, it is almost the size of Belait District itself," he said.
Tap Oil, an oil and gas exploration company with interests in Australia, New Zealand, Brunei and the Philippines, was appointed by PetroleumBRUNEI as Block M's operator in September last year, where it will take a 40% equity interest. It is heading a consortium with China Oil (Macao), Triton Hydrocarbons and Jana Corp for the project. A 3D seizmic survey is expected to be conducted in October this year.
