The HCM City Inspectorate said last weekend it is beginning a probe into the unauthorised construction of villas at Saigon Water Park Company.
An Inspectorate official said the investigation, ordered by the city People's Committee, would be completed in 45 days by a team led by Vo Thanh Hung, deputy chief of the Department of Economic Inspection 2.
The Saigon Water Park, situated in Thu Duc District, is also alleged to have encroached on the banks of the district's Go Dua Canal during the construction of the villas.
The five-hectare park closed in 2006, purportedly for maintenance.
But its operator cleared the site and began construction of the villas on one hectare without approval from the city administration.
The city's Department of Planning and Architecture recommended to the city administration in late 2006 to zone half of the site for housing.
But the People's Committee has yet to approve it.
The Saigon Water Park Co is a joint venture between Pegasus Leisure Ltd of the British Virgin Islands and Eden Trade and Service Company, an affiliate of Saigontourist.
