Norway telecoms giant aims for Vietnam market share
Norway’s largest telecoms group Telenor has made its first step into Vietnam’s cell phone network market by opening a representative office in Hanoi on Wednesday April 20.
Telenor aims to form a long-term cooperation with Vietnam’s telecoms sector, said Arve Johansen, CEO of Telenor Mobile, in a company news release April 20.
“We are hopeful that strong partnerships will emerge between Telenor and the Vietnamese telecommunication industry in the time to come, and that these partnerships will be translated into mutual beneficial growth and investment opportunities in the future,” he added.
Vietnam’s cell phone services have witnessed strong growth for the past years, and Telenor is “very impressed” by solutions carried out by Vietnam’s government to create a competitive and regulated environment for the people’s benefits, said Johansen.
He added that Telenor could provide new and competitive cell phone services in Vietnam.
Telenor’s Chief Representative for Vietnam will be Ola Ree, who was the former CEO of Grameen Phone, a successful affiliate of Telenor in Bangladesh.
Currently, Vietnam has six cell phone networks with nationwide coverage.
