One-Week Interbank Interest Rate Plummets to All-Time Low on April 16

The average interbank interest rate for 1-week term slipped 0.57 percent against April 13 to 6.42 percent per annum, marking an all-time low on April 16, the central bank’s data showed.

Interbank interest rates on April 16 edged down for most terms against three days earlier. Interbank rates for 2-week and 3-month dipped 0.57 percent and 0.49 percent to 6.93 percent p.a. and 12.66 percent p.a., respectively. Particularly, the average 12-month rate represented the biggest fall, down 4.18 percent to 9.32 percent p.a.

Meanwhile, average overnight rate rose 0.21 percent against April 13 to 8.09 percent p.a. The average interest rate for 1-month and 6-month terms increased 0.8 percent and 0.09 percent to settle at 10.57 percent p.a. and 11.8 percent p.a. from the 3 days earlier.

Total trading volume in the interbank market on April 16 reached VND25.08 trillion, of which VND13.57 trillion or 54 percent were for overnight loans. One-week loans accounted for 21.4 percent of the total.
