Onus of foreign contractors to use local firms

A regulation on operation management of foreign contractors in construction in Vietnam recently has been ratified by prime minister. It is applied for foreign contractors in construction investment consulting, providing construction material, equipment. In article 4 of this regulation, foreign contractors are required to associate with Vietnamese contractors or Vietnamese sub-investors for public tenders.

Under this regulation, foreign contractors have the same obligations in tax payments as stipulated, recruitment of Vietnamese and foreign workers as stipulated in the labour law. In addition, it requires functional agencies to guide these contractors in preparing documents for licensing construction.
