Over $5.5b spent on importing textile materials
The statistics released by Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (Vitas) showed that in the first half of 2012, Vietnam’s textile and garment industry has spent over US $5.5 billion on importing raw materials serving for producing and exporting apparels nationwide.
Of which, the total amount spared for importing cotton was $440 million, down 29.87 percent against the same period last year, for fiber of $638 million, down 14%, cloth of $3.4 billion, down 0.02 percent and $913 million for supplementary materials. In comparison with H1 of 2011, the total value for importing materials for the country’s textile and garment industry dropped by 5.87%.
Also in the first six months of 2012, the country’s total export turnover for textile and garment products was estimated at $7.5 billion, of which apparels counted for $6.6 billion, increasing by 11 percent against the same period last year, and counting for 13 percent of the nation’s total export turnover.
