A vice chairman of Kien Giang People’s Committee will likely receive a warning for his “leadership mistakes” that led to the mismanagement of land and corrupt acts of Phu Quoc island officials, said a source November 8.
The standing committee of Kien Giang Party Committee has proposed its punishment for vice chair Pham Long, also member of the committee, to the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, said a source from the standing committee.
Long did not keep a close eye on the activities of land officials in the southern province’s island, said the provincial standing committee. As a result, some island officials allegedly mismanaged some of the island’s land projects and abused their power to gain illegal profits, it added.
As well, the standing committee proposed imposing a less serious punishment of “reprimand” on Nguyen Van Tan, secretary of the Ha Tien Municipality Party Committee and former vice chairman of Kien Giang People’s Committee, said the source.
Tan, during his time as provincial vice chairman, signed some decisions granting land to some individuals and organisations which violated regulations, said the source.
