Police arrest counterfeiters of family residence books

A ring making counterfeit family residence books was raided after its leader was caught carrying samples police said. The gang charged up to US$7,500, police said.
Last Saturday morning, police in Go Vap district of HCM City arrested Vo Duy Doat, 23, from southern province Dong Nai, holding ten faked booklets and four celluloid films of family records, and other tools of the trade.
Following an investigation, police searched a house and arrested four more, seizing a 8cm diameter magnifier, a scanner, a computer set, four mobile phones, a painting frame, some cash and two blank family residence booklets.
Police said they arrested five people: Vo Ngoc Cat, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Luu Quang Vinh, Vo Trieu Xuan Tan, and Doat.
They had just received US$2,000 of a US$7,500 deal to doctor a residence booklet to help a woman in rehabilitation centre fulfil procedures to go to the United States.
The investigation into the ring is still on-going.
