Power sector needs US$13.7b
It is forecasted the electricity demand from now to 2010 in Vietnam will likely reach 93 billion kWh. So, to meet this demand, the Vietnamese electricity sector needs another US$13.7 billion of investment capital in the period 2006–2010, general director of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Dao Van Hung said at the ceremony of receiving Golden Star Medal granted by the Vietnamese president Tran Duc Luong on December 15.
This capital is used for building 52 new hydroelectric plants and 9,000 kilometres of high-tension distribution lines and transformer stations with a capacity of 29,480 MVA, according to Hung.
Up to the present, EVN has completed the target set for the period 2001–2005 surpassing the plan by one year with the anticipated electricity output provided for the economy in 2004 about 45.9 billion kWh, total capacity of all hydroelectric has reached 11,280 MW.
