Rice export forecast at 3.2m tonnes

Rice exports in 2002 should reach 3.2 million tonne because over three million tonnes has been exported since early this year, according to the Vietnam Food Association (Vietfood). By the end of the year, contracts of 200,000 tonne are scheduled for delivery.

Vietfood’s general secretary Nguyen Thi Nguyet said rice exports will fall 8% in quantity however export earnings should reach US$550 million, equivalent to last year’s earnings due to higher export rice price.
