Rice prices rise on strong export demand
Rice prices have jumped recently due to insufficient supplies to meet a sharp increase in demand for export rice.
Particularly, in Mekong delta provinces, rice is 2,350–2,400 dong per kilogram, a rise of 100 dong per kilogram compared to that of last week.
In the southern province of Dong Thap, the price is 3,700 dong per kilogram last week, up by 200 dong against the previous week. In the southwestern city of Can Tho, rice prices have risen by 20–40 dong per kilogram.
In northern provinces, unhusked rice price now stands at 2,700–3,000 dong per kilogram and husked rice price is 4,200–4,800 dong per kilogram, a rise of 100–200 dong per kilogram.
However, last week Vietnam offers free-on-board (fob) price of US$255–US$256 per tonne of 5% broken rice, fell by US$2–US$3 per tonne compared to that of the previous week and US$234–US$244 per tonne of 25% broken rice, said a source of the Ministry of Trade.
