Russell Indexes: Asia Outperformed Europe, Underperformed US in First Half 2012; All Global Regions Positive
The Russell Developed Asia Pacific Index returned +4.6 percent in the first half of 2012, relative to a +3.4 percent return for the Russell Developed Europe Index and a +9.3 percent return for the Russell 1000(R) Index of US large cap stocks.
The Philippines was the top performing country within the Russell Asia Pacific Index for the first half of 2012 with a return of 26.8 percent, followed by Thailand (+17.1 percent) and Singapore (+15.3 percent). Indonesia had the worst performance within the Index in the first half at (-1.0 percent), followed by China (+3.0 percent) and Japan (+3.1 percent).
Within the Russell Asia Pacific Index, the Financial Services sector led the first half, with a +10.7 percent return, followed by the Consumer Staples (+8.8 percent) and Health Care (+8.2 percent) sectors. The Materials & Processing sector was at the bottom of the Russell Asia Pacific Index in the first half at (-5.1 percent).
