HCM City on Tuesday March 29 prosecuted a former judge suspected of bribery, while another man accused of making the bribes was also prosecuted. Nguyen Van Chung admitted bribing former judge Nguyen Thi Huong with about US$3,000 in a bid to affect the outcome of his trial.
Prosecutors said they have ample evidence against the corrupt judge, as Chung handed over recorded tapes of their conversations, and a receipt Huong had written after receiving the bribe.
Chung was the plaintiff in a lawsuit over land disputes back in 2001, which Huong, then a judge of the HCM City Court, was supposed to preside over.
