Scan Com Vietnam lays off nearly 1,000 workers
A group of 94 workers of Scan Com Vietnam, a company specialising in woodwork furniture based in Song Than Industrial Park of the southern province of Binh Duong, were laid off and given unemployment benefits on June 4. Earlier, 900 other workers of this company suffered the same fate.
According to this company’s personnel department, this is the last lay-off since May 2003. Reportedly, around March when orders were strong, the company employed as many as 2,100 workers for its woodwork factory. Shortly after when business went down because of no more orders, the management board of Scan Com Vietnam has decided to close a part of its woodwork factory, making nearly 1,000 workers redundant.
