Securities trading accounts reach quarter of a million
To 29 June 2007, the number of accounts opened in securities companies reached over 240,000 with over 5,000 accounts belonging to private investors and foreign organisations.
Compared to the figures of 16,000 accounts in 2003, 21,200 accounts in 2004, 31,000 accounts in 2005 and 95,000 accounts, the 2007 figure is a record.
The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (STC) reported that the fast rate of growth has caught both foreign and domestic investors’ attention.
From nine securities companies licensed in 2002, 11 companies in 2003, 13 companies in 2004 and 13 companies in 2005, there are now 58 licensed securities companies, of which 48 have become STC members already with a total chartered capital of nearly 4.645 trillion dong.
To 29 June 2007, the total value of share capitalisation on the STC reached over 211 trillion dong (over US$13.2 billion) with 107 listed shares, in comparison with the last session in 2006, the market capitalisation value gained nearly 150 trillion dong (US$9.4 billion), equal to 17% of the GDP in 2006.
