Shrimp export to Australia increases over 60pct in H1/2012

In H1/2012, Vietnam’s shrimp export revenue to Australia reached over $44.2 million, up 62.5 percent on year.

Vietnam prawn export revenue in H1 reached nearly $30 million, accounting for nearly 70 percent total shrimp export revenue to Australia. While-leg shrimp accounted for 17.5 percent.

Processed shrimp made a high proportion in the total exporting output into Australia – up to nearly 80 percent total exporting value in H1/2012 due to strictly controlling policy on processed shrimp.

According to International Trade Centre (ITC)’s statistics, Vietnam has been taking the lead in processed shrimp supplying into Australia in the last 4 years. In 2011, total processed shrimp export value reached $54 million
