Singapore and Australia have inked an agreement to extend the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s training at Oakey Base until 2027.

The agreement was signed by Singapore Defence minister Ng Eng Hen and his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith, who is here to attend the Shangri-La Dialogue.

The airspace at Oakey allows the RSAF to conduct challenging and realistic training for its helicopter aircrew.

This agreement reinforces the close and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between both countries. The original agreement was signed in October 1996.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Australian Defence Force have a long history of military cooperation, with extensive interactions that include bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges and cross-attendances of courses.
