Singapore has the fifth-fastest broadband speeds in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a report released today.
The Fourth Quarter, 2011 State of the Internet report released by cloud platform provider Akamai found that the average broadband speed in Singapore was 4.6Mbps, which puts it behind South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia in the Asia-Pacific region.
Pack leader South Korea, which also tops the global rankings for fastest broadband speeds, has an average broadband speed of 17.9Mbps. In contrast, India, which is at the bottom of the table for the Asia-Pacific region, averages speeds of 0.9Mbps.
Singapore’s average broadband speed ranks 29th globally.
The report gathered data from Akamai’s globally-deployed Intelligent Platform, and broadband speed data was compiled from 93 countries and regions that had more than 25,000 unique IP addresses connecting to Akamai platform in the fourth quarter of 2011.
