Sugar price increases

Sugar prices have been on an upward sing flying over the maximum price set by the Vietnam Sugar Association. Bien Hoa Sugar Co is selling refined sugar at 6,000 dong a kilogram. What worries producers is that expensive sugar can trigger an inflow of smuggled sugar.

It is reported that nearly two thirds of southern sugar refiners have slowed or even stopped operations citing a lack of sugar cane.
