A Taiwanese criminal who fled to the Philippines several years ago was deported to Taiwan on Thursday, according to the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).

The 35-year-old man, Chen Wen-sheng (???), had committed several crimes involving telecom fraud, gambling and forgery in Taiwan between 2010 and 2011 and was sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison.

However, he fled to the Philippines after he was sentenced and has been on a wanted list since then, the CIB said

In September 2012, Chen was arrested by the Philippines’ National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in connection with the kidnapping of two Taiwanese nationals and attempted extortion.

During an NIB raid, the two victims were rescued and Chen and two accomplices were arrested. Chen was in custody until recently, when a Philippines court acquitted him of the kidnapping and extortion charges.

Escorted by a CIB liaison officer, he was sent back Thursday to Taiwan, where he is expected to face justice for his old crimes.
