Vietnam Association for Seafood Exporters and Processors (Vasep) announced that tariff on Vietnam’s shrimp export to Japanese markets may be cut to 0 percent thanks to the fact that Vietnamese enterprises have already negotiated with Japan-based seafood importers.

Truong Dinh Hoe, Vasep’s general secretary said the tax exemption for shrimp export would help create favourable conditions for Vietnam’s shrimp processing industry to enter Japan. In 2010, Vietnam’s shrimp will be the top priority from Japanese importers.

In 2009, export turnover from shrimp export was estimated at over $1.5 billion, accounting for 40 percent of the total seafood export revenue.
