Telekom Malaysia buys 49% of Casacom

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has acquired a 49% stake in Cambodian mobile operator Cambodia Samart Communications (Casacom) from Thailand’s Samart Corp. The stake was bought through TM’s international investment holding arm, Telekom Malaysia International (TMI) for USD29 million. Casacom, which operates a GSM-900 network, claimed a market share of 14% at the end of September 2005 with 144,500 subscribers.
