Ground clearance phase of Thu Thiem new urban area project mostly has been finished (96 percent), and the synchronic infrastructure construction period will be started in 2012 to call for investors but HCM City plans to accept only big investors to the project, Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon (Saigon Economic Times) newspaper reported.
The announcement was made by vice Chair of HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Tin in the committee meeting on December 8. He confirmed that the city will build four main roads in the urban area in 2012.
Till now, there are many investors seeking opportunities in the new urban project but the city will only accept big and prestigious investors to attract the participation of other giants.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of Thu Thiem New Urban Area PMU said that the project was designed as an international trade, service and banking centre. To date, over 12,500 households along with religious facilities, schools have been removed, and remaining 11 hectares and some works are remaining. In addition, 1,300 households need resettlement houses.
First off, according to Tuan, the city governance will call for investment for three major projects including financial and banking centre area, residence area No 3 and software area. In July 2012, three main roads in the area will be constructed as well.
Thu Thiem new urban area covers 657 hectares, consisting of five main function areas:
Core area includes the centre of visitors, conference, television, entertainment area, and other spaces.
Northern residence area is 10-32 storey condominium buildings with the capacity of around 50,000 residences.
Multifunctional area East-West Boulevard includes 3-16 storey buildings.
Eastern residence area bordering with Dist 2 and Dist 9 is designed with condo buildings for total 15,000 people.
Southern water area is consisting of ecological recovery areas, research centre, community garden in associated with commercial operations.
