Thu Thiem new urban planning blueprints

As a tender winner, the American Sasaki Associate Inc. announced its detailed plan of Thu Thiem new urban area on November 10, said a source of the ministry of construction.
The Thu Thiem new urban area, which is located at the vicinity of HCM City heart, covers an area of 750 hectares and provides accommodation for almost 130,000 people.
As designed, the Thu Thiem new urban area comprises of high buildings and a 300-metre television tower, a travel centre, a conference hall, an open-air stadium, a gymnasium, a metro station, a system of ferry and water taxis as this area is surrounded by rivers.
It is proposed by the Sasaki Associate Inc that the project will be developed in four stages lasting for 20 years. Accordingly, the first stage will develop an urban area of 350 hectares between 2005 and 2010. More 180 hectares of urban area will be expanded in the second stage in five years (2010–2015); the third stage between 2015 and 2020 will expand more 87 hectares. The last stage lasting for five years (2020–2025) will complete the urban area in the remaining 120 hectares in an effort to turn the isolated Thu Thiem area into an international new urban area.
