UN appoints Kenyan lawyer as human rights envoy to Cambodia

United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has appointed Kenyan lawyer Yash Ghai as the new special human rights envoy to Cambodia.
The appointment follows the resignation of Peter Leuprecht, who served in the post from 2001-2005.
The statement from the Cambodia office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, says Professor Ghai, is the Sir Y K Pao Professor of Public Law at the University of Hong Kong, where he teaches human rights and public law,
Cambodia welcomed the new envoy, but urged him to keep his work neutral in reference to several disputes with Mr Leuprecht.
